I Hate Tuesdays.
I’m awake at six a.m. and I’m going, going, going until 9 p.m. at school. I was falling asleep in my last class and I ran to grab a sugar-free Red Bull to make it through the next. My parents caution me to enjoy my last bits of college before I enter the real world, but I ask them and others of a similar mindset to consider the following: Living paycheck to paycheck, mired in...

Chokehold.
Sometimes I feel like I’m suffocating for air while in a warm, stuffy room filled with people and it takes every bit of willpower I can summon to not flee and stumble outside where there is absolutely nobody around but my own mind, thank god—just me.

A hairy situation.
Brandon: You should call up your ex and ask her to see you, you know, even in your hairy ways...
Brandon's Friend: She wrote a poem once about my hair, so I don't think she has a problem with it.
Brandon: What?
Friend: You know, I trim.
Brandon: You trim...where?!
Friend: I trim where it matters.

Concrete graveyards.
I don’t know if this is a regional issue, but no matter which road or byway I take in the DC/VA/MD area, there are dozens of squirrel corpses littering my path. There are no less than 5 dead squirrels in a one-mile stretch on the way to school. This is a bad omen (of what I do not know) and I’m not sure whether to blame bad driving, overpopulation or an angry god for the cruel fate...

Materialistic side note.
Barack Obama wears the most complimentary suits and ties. I’ll post something more meaningful after the debate has concluded.

Mercury in retrograde.
Yesterday, the planet Mercury went into retrograde. A retrograde period is best seen as a cycle, beginning when the planet begins to slow to a halt before travelling backwards through the zodiac and ending when the planet returns to the point where it first paused. If you’ve been having a bad or weird week, maybe you should blame space patterns instead. Mercury retrograde gives rise to...

The palate.
I like strong foods that most people do not. This includes (but is not limited to): olives, pickles, sauerkraut, exotic/strong cheeses.

mufti: Is it wrong that I am thinking about Christmas presents already? As a child, I always marveled at the stress that adults felt around Christmas. Now I understand: you’re broke, gaining a pound a day and navigating the potential minefield of family politics. Scary.

magicalteacher: As an American citizen, and a member of another country as well (dual-citizen) I have NEVER felt it was my duty to vote.  I really didn’t care…up until now.  (This thought falls on my daughters’ ears with a huge thud!) I look at this country where I live and work, and I admire the people here who work hard for a living and I finally feel that my lonely vote may make a...

lenachen: And there was a moment there, right after I saw it, when I did think the worst. The worst wasn’t “there’s someone else.” It was “he’s someone else.” My biggest relationship fear is not unfaithfulness. I have a strange empathy for people who cheat, probably because I’ve been the other woman way too many times and can tell the difference between one-time accidents and purposeful...

Taking Sides! →
walpaper: funtime: Fighting with your significant other? Who’s right and who’s wrong? Air it out anonymously while letting people of the world give you advice and make the decision on who should apologize. If life were only this simple. Listening to NPR.
I hate when NPR has on-air commentators who like to smack their lips together during pauses in speech, causing disgusting smacking sounds to boom over the airwaves as their tongue and lips collide.

These are real answers from a quiz I’m grading. I think my brain just exploded. Question : Define realism. Answer : The situation is looked at and treated with a view that is not really what it is but they chose to...

Fasting.
You’d have to be blind to miss it: juice fasts and/or cleanses are booming in popularity. They’ve always been a fringe, last-ditch diet effort, but lately seem to be increasing in consistency of use. 3-day juice cleanses twice or three times every two weeks does not qualify as being outside the realm of medical supervision (any cleanse over 3 days is recommended to be under the watch...

Dupont Circle.
As Brandon and I descended down the escalator into the depths of Metrorail late last night, there were large amounts of prepsters heading up the escalator on the opposite side. They were easily recognizable, given their mostly European-American descent (uber-white), surfer-influenced clothing (Abercrombie) and superfluous eye make-up (The Hills). Both he and I looked at each other and made a...
