One of the more interesting facets of the John Adams biography by David McCullough—which was incorporated into the miniseries—was John Adams’ need to quote from his breadth of knowledge in order to prove himself. It is encouraging to see that the people we admire as heroes now also had their moments of complete self-consciousness.
