Color for Fall!

When fall and winter roll around, I am so tempted to bring out all of my black and gray clothing. Part of this is due to the fact that a lot of fall/winter clothing tends to be darker anyway, but it’s so easy to wear color in the summer when you have bright floral dresses everywhere and so easy to fall back on darker, “warmer” colors in the fall/winter.
So, how do you add pops of color to your fall wardrobe? Here’s a few examples.
This is a version of my favorite fall outfit: comfy jeans, boots and a warm, cute peacoat. Instead of wearing a black or gray peacoat, though, why not reach for something bright and fun like this one?
(Don’t forget your coffee!)
This is a version of what I wear nearly every day from October through March. Skinny black pants or leggings, boots and a chunky sweater. To bring in some color to this rather bland color palette, choose a colorful scarf, or like in this example, a bright kelly-green handbag and some pink rose stud earrings.
I know you’ve probably got a few summer skirts laying around that you hate to give up when the cold weather hits, but you don’t have to store them away. Just add tights and a sleek black turtleneck to instantly winterize your floral skirt. Add some oxfords for a nod to fall trends, a cute coat, a supple leather bag and a pair of faux glasses! This is also an example of an outfit that can transition perfectly from day to night. Just swap out the oxfords for a pair of booties or heels and apply a bit of extra eyeliner.
Gray skinny jeans or jeggings are a great investment because they are so versatile, but a little more interesting than your standard black pair. A plaid tunic with a short khaki trench-style coat looks cute, and then you can add some color in with your accessories: a bright scarf, or a bold, yellow watch, for example. (Or both!)
Which of these outfits do you see yourself wearing this fall/winter?
