My Favorite Things, Right Now.
I love fall more than any other season, and I’m not just doing that thing where you are “so in love” with whatever season the weather happens to be entering. (That’s so easy to do—end of winter, “My favorite season! Spring!” As the summer gets closer, “I can’t wait for my favorite season…summer!”) Oh no. I am 100% loyal to fall/autumn/whatever you want to call it. If I could live somewhere that was perpetually crisp, cool, sunny with changing leaves, I would go in a heartbeat.
Chimney Smoke - The smell of chimney smoke is really one of those perfect fall “things” that you kinda forget about until the first really chilly day when you walk outside and smell smoke coming out of every nearby house. Also, when I smell chimney smoke, I automatically want camp food and hot chocolate. Go figure.
Long-Sleeved Chemises & Robes - Fall is the first time after many months in which I can comfortably throw on all my comfy, warm sleepwear and slippers and curl up on the couch in a huge pile of wool and dense cotton.
Thanksgiving Issue Magazines - I’ve started to notice the Thanksgiving issues on newstands and in the checkout line at the grocery store and my fingers are practically itching to get my paws on the various recipes. Resistance is futile.
BOOTS - As you may have noticed by now, I’m a huge boot advocate. I think I look better with boots on my feet, I feel better with boots on my feet, I think everyone can benefit from a great pair of boots, etc. etc.
Red Cups - As much as I try to avoid buying coffee now (I save almost $30 per week making it at home!), there are two things I cannot help myself from buying: 1) pumpkin spice lattes, either from Starbucks, Caribou or my new favorite, Dunkin Donuts, and 2) various Starbucks drinks in the holiday-red cups.
Berry Wreaths - I know that berries are kind of “over” for holiday decor since all their mileage has been used up over the past few years, but I’m going to cling to the berries and especially the berry wreaths because I just really love the way they look. Red berries say CHRISTMAS IS COMING to me whenever I see them.
Colorful Leaves - Driving down the street with my windows down, the air cool, the sun bright and every single tree is changing colors is really one of the best moments I have all year.
Board Games! - I’m notoriously antsy about playing board games (as in, I avoid them), but when it starts getting chillier outside, I get this domesticated urge to make snacks, hot beverages and play mindless card games like UNO.
