Lil Old Me.

I thought it was about time I updated the About Me section of my blog, so here we go!

Why should I read your blog?

I want my blog to be informative, fun and also really interactive. If I get a question from a friend or from a reader, I will do my best to answer it. I love fashion, but I’m conscious of budget-friendly shopping and I try to make sure the content reflects that. I rarely feature any item on the blog that’s over $100—usually not even over $60.

Also, this blog isn’t all about fashion—it’s also about me and my life and my thoughts and opinions. I’ve tried to balance my informative posts with little tidbits about me so it’s more personal and more fun!

How did you get into blogging?

I saw a post on Jezebel about Courtney’s feature in Lucky magazine. I clicked through to Courtney’s blog (which I loved) and saw that her URL had the suffix of “tumblr.com” and got curious. I signed up, did a few experimental posts and was completely and utterly addicted! From there, I convinced Tanya, Megan, my mom, my sister, Ellie and others to join so I wouldn’t be lonely.

How long has your blog been going? Do you have other blogs or websites?

I’m way over the year mark now! I started my blog in December of 2007.

I also write for Stylefeeder and I run Fuck Yeah Papillons.

What do you like about blogging?

I started up and stopped multiple blogs before moving to the Tumblr platform. I like the stream-of-consciousness and ease of use of this particular platform, and frankly, the community aspect has kept it interesting and validating for me.

I enjoy writing about all sorts of things, but fashion—as is obvious—is my favorite topic and I find it challenging and interesting to discuss fashion from an affordable point-of-view. I’ll often read a magazine’s article on “Affordable Outfits!” and it features $150 blouses. Who is that affordable for? There’s a really unfortunate gap between what certain publishers believe is “affordable” for the average, 20-30 year old American woman and what that woman actually can buy in the store.

Do you blog full-time?

I blog often, but it’s not my full-time job. Maybe someday! Right now I work in public relations (non-fashion-related, PR, by the way).

Where do you live?

I live in Maryland, about 25 minutes from Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington, D.C. I’m in a lovely little pocket of the state that happens to be in advantageous driving/commuting distance of three major cities. I work in DC, though.

What tools do you use to design your blog and create posts?

Phew—a whole lot! Here’s the details:

  • Photoshop CS3 to design the look-and-feel of my blog and some photo editing.
  • Picasa for quick photo editing.
  • Skitch to save screenshots and scribble nonsense over images. I also use Skitch to place numbers and other information on my collages.
  • Polyvore.com to create my photo/fashion collages.
  • Shopstyle.com to find hard-to-locate clothing or accessories.

What are some of your interests (other than the obvious)?

I love reading—it’s one of my all-time favorite activities. I’m very fond of cooking (it relaxes me) and sitting back and watching movies or TV shows with my husband.

Who is your husband?

A very handsome fellow! He doesn’t make daily appearances on my blog due to his reservations about being in photos, but I’m gradually convincing him.

How can I get a hold of you?

E-mail me! (Or visit me on Twitter or Facebook under Jaclyn Day).
