Okay, Kelly Cutrone book update.
I finished it this morning on the Metro. I really have no words. It’s just so good.
I don’t usually go for self-help, motivational-y type books, and although I read some reviews describing her book as those things, I think it needs to be put in a genre all its own.
The fashion stuff is interesting and fun, yes, but the last few chapters of the book really stood out. She’s smart, she’s monetized doing something she’s good at and she is an amazing mentor for women just entering the workforce or looking for what they really want out of life. I especially like her emphasis on hard work and competency in whatever profession you choose—so often I feel that young people expect to become millionaires overnight when they’ve never done a day of honest work in their life. It is so refreshing to hear someone explain how heartwrenching and difficult it is to work for what you want.
So, even though I’m not going to classify this as a “motivational” book, it actually did motivate me and in really important and thought-provoking ways.
(Also, if you are interested in working in the fashion industry, this book is a wake-up call to what it’s like behind the glamourous front.)
I want to give this book as a gift to everyone I know. The straight talk is priceless and the empowerment is exciting.
