So I've recently started a new job -- it's at a laid-back software company with a start-up feel. Jeans and flats in the office are fine, but I'm curious as to what you would suggest for tops! Where's a good starting point for that very casual, yet stylish, but not-too-stuffy look?

Here are a few ideas for you!
From left to right:
- I like this J.Crew tee ($45) because it’s casual but still stylish enough for a laid-back office. Add a pretty necklace (or a few bracelets) and some colorful flats. You could layer it under a cardigan or a blazer too.
- Start with a simple Topshop striped tank ($56) and add an interesting jacket, like this textured Go Make Noise jacket ($70). A contrasting print on your shoes, like leopard flats, would be cute…but if that’s too funky, swap them out for simple black or taupe ones.
- I like a chambray top (the one above is from J.Crew, but this one from Nordstrom is a bit cheaper) with a classic pullover (Gap, $39.95). Wear with skinny black pants or jeans and add these Gap flats.
- This Zara blouse is so pretty—it will look great this spring by itself or you can wear it now with a jacket. The print is big and bold, so keep the jewelry simple (the necklace above is from Baublebar). I love contrasting black and white with spring colors, so these pink wedges ($69) from TOMS are perfect.
I hope this gives you a few ideas! Congratulations on the new job!

Parkas for Less

One of my all-time favorite blogs/websites is Who What Wear. They had this great feature about parkas recently and, although I love how practical and casual-chic they can be, the prices featured in WWW’s post were way over my budget.

But, I did find several parkas I liked nearly as much for a fraction of the prices in Who What Wear’s post.

- Gap Military Parka, $100
- A|Wear Fur Collar Jacket, $118
- Warehouse Fur Trim Parka, $101
- QSW Parka, $64 (from $128)

All these faux leather jackets are from Forever21’s Canadian storefront and most are in the $30-$40 range!

My Favorite Outerwear Under $100!
And not a black coat in the bunch! These coats are seriously awesome and I love all the different colors and styles. If you want to stand out this winter, there are tons of options for you that look unique and fun, but are also accessible price-wise.
1. ModCloth “Go Go Inspector” Coat, $75 - Military styling in a neutral, easy-to-wear color.
2. Charlotte Russe Retro Coat, $45 - I love red coats and the mod styling is fun. Would look great with black skinny jeans and wedges.
3. Jack by BB Dakota Plaid Coat, $85 - Plaid coats always look stylish and I like the color combo on this one.
4. Forever 21 Quilted Faux Fur Coat, $40 - Honestly? I LOVE this. $40? You can’t beat that. Although I’m sure the quality is so-so, this is the kind of thing you’d wear for fun—not for everyday.
5. Arden B Trench, $84 - Spice up your traditional trench shape with a light pink color.
6. Delias Peacoat with Thinsulate, $89 - This trenchcoat comes in a ton of colors and is both cute and functional, with Thinsulate to keep you warm on chilly days.
7. Liqourish Military Detail Coat, $78 - The classic military detail coat, but with a full, swingy shape.
8. Steve Madden Tiered Ruffle Coat, $98 - I love the big collar and the ruffled skirt.
beautiful-elegance asked:
I love Ann Taylor’s black Perfect Trench Coay, but I am a high school senior with a budget to match…. Does you? know of a great alternative for fifty bucks or less? Has to have a hood and hit mid thigh or a tiny bit higher.
No problem—except on the hood. :) Since the Ann Taylor trench does not have a hood, I found jackets that looked like the Ann Taylor trench at a lower price point. (If your head gets cold and you like a hood, you could always try a cute hat instead?) Anyway, I hope one of these works for you!

kdonz asked:I LOVE this season’s camel wool coat trend, can you recommend some that are pretty well made and durable (aka: will keep me warm if snowmaggedon strikes again) but won’t break the bank?
So, here’s the thing about the camel trend. Some brilliant fashion editor somewhere decided that a nice twist on the khaki trench was “OMG CAMEL” and now every retailer and designer from here to kingdom come realized that what women will want for fall is “OMG CAMEL” and they’ve raised their prices accordingly. Because we aren’t yet in the full swing of winter offerings from less expensive retailers, the number of decent quality (i.e. warm) camel coats priced under $200 can be counted on one hand, while $1,500 wool camel coats are all over ShopBop and larger department stores.
Outerwear trends are tricky, because outerwear is always more expensive than a dress or a shirt for obvious reasons: they are more difficult to make, harder to tailor, and use more expensive fabrics, like wool. So, right now, retailers are still riding the wave of September issue fall must-have articles that spewed “CAMEL CAMEL CAMEL” into the ears of millions of American women. But, what about the women who can’t afford a coat equal to roughly the amount of one months rent?
We’ll have to wait it out together. Wait until the more affordable retailers start hauling out the heavy-duty winterwear (after Halloween is a good time to start looking).
I found three decent camel coats priced more affordably, but they are (admittedly) not great and not warm enough to survive a Snowmageddon, for sure. The bottom line is that you won’t get a really high quality, warm coat unless you pay quite a bit of money for it. That doesn’t mean you’re out of luck, though. Buy a less expensive, on-trend coat from somewhere like H&M, for example, for about $80-$90 and layer the hell out of it. Wear a sweater underneath, get a warm scarf, hat and gloves and you should be warm enough to navigate snowy streets. As long as you aren’t circumnavigating an entire city in the middle of a blizzard with only an H&M jacket to keep you warm, you’ll be fine.
I’ll keep watching for when the more affordable retailers start bringing out the winterwear, but for now, this is the best I could find without tempting you to forgo the rent check in favor of OMG CAMEL.

I need help finding a brown leather jacket. I prefer a vertical zipper as opposed to a diagonal and it needs to match these brown boots: http://www.stevemadden.com/item.aspx?id=50077&path=|womens%20shoes|fall%20essentials|
thanks!!
Here are a few cognac-colored faux leather jackets I found for under $100.
