Best & Worst at Oscars 2011

Sadly, the best parts of last night’s Oscar telecast were a few gracious and funny speeches and the beautiful dresses on the stars. The show felt clunky and uneven, and (I hate to say this) but James Franco and Anne Hathaway were the perfect examples of why one should avoid downers (James) and uppers (Anne).
Anyway, let’s take a look at some of the best (and worst) dresses from last night!

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture
I’m starting with her because there was really no contest as to who would be deemed best dressed after I saw this come down the red carpet. It was even more beautiful on TV and the pop of yellow around the collar and down the back was the icing on the cake.

Amy Adams in L’Wren Scott
I love red heads in navy blue (especially SEQUINED navy blue), but I was distracted by the giant emerald necklace that (unfortunately) broke up the lines of the dress in a really unfortunate way. When you’re wearing a dress with this much sparkle, you don’t need much jewelry on top of it.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier
I have to admit: when I saw the shots of her on the red carpet, I wasn’t sure who it was until they flashed her name up on the screen. She looks stunning here. In my opinion, second-best to Cate Blanchett’s first. The hair, makeup, jewelry and that dress are all perfect on her. Thanks to her beautiful skin tone, the sheer mesh top actually works to its intended illusionary effect.
See more best and worst after the jump, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway!

Kate Beckinsale.

Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson

Kate Beckinsale is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood and Diane Kruger is shutting it down again (with Joshua Jackson this time, even better).
Okay, sorry Ryan. Diane wins best dressed. Okay, I’m sorry. It’s a tie.
(But seriously, Diane Kruger is just perfection here.)
My pick for best dressed of the night.
From the neck up, Kate Winslet looks beautiful, as always.
From the neck down, her stylist forgot it’s not 1999. Pity.
The least “done” she’s looked on the red carpet in a while and it suits her. Less makeup is better and the color of this dress looks great with her skin.
Will forever be known as the boob dress.
Also, she’s turning into Nicole Kidman.
Just when you thought Halle Berry couldn’t get any hotter, her doppelganger comes along wearing this knock-out gown. Sure, it’s not traditional, but seeing risks on the red carpet is refreshing! And there’s nothing more wonderful than seeing some color instead of another black satin dress. (I love how the hem looks like carnation balls.)
Usually I don’t like white on very pale women, but no one rocks the pale-on-pale look like Amanda. She has the amazing skin and gorgeous, huge eyes and lots of confidence to make this work.
She either gets the dress or the hair right—never at the same time. Here, the dress was right. The hair? Wrong. Rocking a major bumpit poof is so 2009.
