I’m getting married in February and wearing this dress: [REDACTED FOR PRIVACY REASONS BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY PRETTY WOW I LOVE IT] The wedding is very small and we’re all going out to dinner at a nice restaurant after the ceremony. I need a coat to wear since it’ll be the dead of winter. I’ve been searching but I’m not quite sure what would work best. Something white or cream? Go big and find vintage fur online or borrow some? The problem with fur is that my shoes are pointy blue satin and my hair will be up with a little feather fascinator thing so I’m worried that will be just A Lot Going On if I add fur. I’m so bad at all this stuff. Plus what length do I get? I don’t really have a budget but let’s just say I’m not prepared to buy a $500 coat right now. Love your blog!
Oh yes. I see. That’s a pickle. I like the fur idea, but you’re right—it will read pretty vintage costume-y, which is FINE—just let me say—but it may not be what you’re going for. Or it is! In which case, yes, go for vintage fur because I can’t find a damn faux fur or real fur or fur anything that could work for less than $800 right now.
Another option, and one that might be a little more subtle, is this clean, pretty coat from Boden ($248). It gave me instant Jackie Kennedy vibes and the vanilla color would look great with your dress. The length is also superb—I think you want the coat as long as your dress or longer. With your blue shoes and fascinator, you would look AMAZING. (Please note the coat also has a bit of texture to it, which I really really like.)
Please send me pictures? Your dress is so damn pretty that I have to see the end result.
