I saw this photo making the rounds on Tumblr last week and loved the easy, chic outfit. The only problem? I tracked this post to several different blogs, none of which mentioned where the original photo was from! (If this is your photo, feel free to shoot me an email.)
Anyway, this is a great summer-to-fall transitional look. Just add a light trench and scarf for late September and early October. Later, swap out the pumps for boots and pair with tights. (Don’t forget a cardigan or jacket!)

Here’s one of my favorite bloggers, The Man Repeller, also featured in Refinery 29.
This is a lot of layers happening (probably too many for the unseasonably warm weather around here), but the leopard shoes + socks are what takes this look from normal (jeans, leather jacket, white tee) to stylish and fun. Grab the vest featured in the last post and now you’ve got two ways to wear it.
1. Poppie Jones Woven Hobo, $35
2. Tinley Road Leather Jacket, $79
3. J. Crew Perfect Fit Tee, $24.50
4. ASOS Snood, $45
5. Forever 21 Leopard Heels, $28
6. UO Ankle Socks, $8
7. Gap Always Skinny Cuffed Jeans, $69.50

One of my favorite things about NYFW is seeing what people wore to NYFW. Refinery 29 rounded up some of their favorite street style looks from the week and I’ll showcase a few and affordable ways to steal their looks.
I really wasn’t sure what to make of the whole maxi skirt/maxi dress trend this winter—I wear maxi dresses in the summer, yes, but paired with boots during the winter…it was initially a little too 90’s for me. I have flashbacks of stirrup leggings and they are not pretty. However, I love how comfortable and effortlessly chic this girl looks. It really doesn’t get more comfy than a long dress and flat shoes.
[Edit: This is Geri Hirsch from Tumblr! Nice outfit.]
1. Urban Outfitters Beanie, $28
2. ASOS Maxi Dress, $70
3. Ecote Safari Vest, $69
4. BDG Weekender Bag, $68
5. Target Flat Boots, $37

How To Dress For Different Events.

There are four “events” that I get a lot of styling questions about. They are: 1) dates/going out looks; 2) brunch/weekend looks; 3) weddings and 4) casual-cool school outfits.

This post will discuss the first two events and I’ll be doing another post to talk about weddings and school outfits!

Thanks to some street style looks, I’ll show you examples of what I think are perfect looks for the first two occasions/events/places and explain why!

GOING ON A DATE/COCKTAIL PARTY

The easiest and most chic look for a date or cocktail party/happy hour is always the Little Black Dress. It may seem cliche, and it may seem boring too, but trust me: it’s not. Do you get bored seeing Audrey Hepburn in this little number? No, of course not! So, wear the black dress and accessorize cleverly and you’re good to go.

I love this look from Annika because it’s kind of short and sassy, but covered up on top so she’s not breaking the cardinal rule of dresses! (Boobs or legs, not both.) The shoes are really fun, too, and not your basic black pumps.

Little black dresses do not have to be boring, as Shareen shows here! Where this dress could be kind of stuffy, she makes it unique with the leopard belt.

BRUNCH/WEEKEND LOOKS

You should be really, really comfortable on the weekend. Nothing tight, constricting or too showy. If you have to wear heels all week long, take a break and throw on some flat boots or Converse on the weekend. Also, make sure you dress in layers since you never know how aggressive or lax the A/C in restaurants or stores will be.

I’m not typically a fan of the acid-wash jeans, but I think they work really well here on Frida.

Easy, chic and I love the sandals! You can dress up a casual, plain tee with a blazer, and a wearing a pair of glasses (whether real or fake) is an easy way to accessorize. (via The Dress Diaries)

Check back soon for wedding and school looks!

New York Fashion Week Street Style!

The key to copying street style looks is to deconstruct them one piece at a time. When I first see a really great look, I can get intimidated because it looks like something I could never put together. But, if you take it one piece at a time, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is and, also, you may already own everything you need!

Here are a few NYFW street styles that caught my eye, done up affordably for you!

(All street style photos from The Sartorialist, Refinery29 and Face Hunter.)

Street style pics are so interesting. Usually, you see some amazing, creative, stylish outfits that you’d never, ever think of wearing yourself—and that you’d probably cringe at in person. For instance, pink pants and patent oxfords. But, stepping outside your box can be worth it! Try something new!

Do I even need to explain why I love this look? It’s perfect.
(If she’s wearing faux fur, it’s perfect. If it’s real fur, then, not so much—but my version is faux.)
Express Faux Fur Scarf, $30
BDG Twill Trench, $98
TopShop Ruffle Tunic, $28
Urban Originals Ankle Boot, $20

A cape is a great layer to have as the weather starts to warm up. Not quite a coat, but more like a substantial sweater—but with a lot more style than a hoodie!
Capes are getting hard to track down, so if you have you heart set on one, purchase it soon before the stores are filled with bathing suits and sundresses until next fall.
Forever 21 Sunglasses, $6
DKNY Cape, $70
Forever 21 Striped Tee, $16
Kasil Jeans “Hepburn”, $88 (from $198)
TopShop Bag, $44

Mixing patterns is a hard trend for me to adopt. Every inch of my being resists mixing florals and plaids, polka dots and stripes, etc. I’m not much a print wearer anyway, but then adding multiple prints into the mix is too much for my monochromatic tendencies to handle. Implosion!
But, I really like this. There’s something great about the bright colors and her huge smile and it’s just a happy outfit.
I couldn’t find an adequate yellow floral jacket that I thought fit the look, so I substituted with a floral jacket in a color palette that’s a little easier for me to handle.
